July 4, 2020 By Stacey Leave a Comment

Camping is an excellent activity that a family can enjoy together. It can be loads of fun for children of all age groups. With the right activities and campsites; even most adults can enjoy camping to a great deal. But a camping trip is not something you can undertake without any preparation. Without the right safety precautions, a camping trip can turn out to be quite disastrous.

Consider these family campsite tips to help you and your family to stay safe and comfortable.

Choose a reputed family campsite

When camping with family (especially young children), it is best to choose campsites located in resorts. You can find a reputed camping resort via an online search. Use keywords such as family campsites near me for this purpose.

Check the websites of camping resorts by using the links you find on the search result pages. Look at the facilities, amenities, and activities available at the campsite.

What kinds of accommodations are available at the campsites? If you are keen to camp in tents then it is far safer to do so in a resort campsite than out in the wild with your children. There are resort campsites that also offer accommodation options such as RVs, rustic cabins, and even luxury rooms. So, you can enjoy camping but in a safer manner.

Are the activities at the campsite you like varied and safe? A good campsite will have games like cornhole, laser tags, etc. and adventure activities such as scavenger hunts. It will have a clean and safe swimming pool, novelty activities such as archery, gemstone mining, etc. for kids to enjoy, and more. It will have mazes and enjoyable activities for kids such as crafting.

Are there restaurants on the campsite? Is food available at the campsite throughout the day? Is there a provision store on the premises? Ensure that you have answers to these questions before reserving a spot on the campsite.

Can you take your animal companions to the campsite? If you don’t inquire about it beforehand, you risk subjecting your beloved animal and your family to distress. Campsites can have rules about bringing pets along with you. Find out in advance the protocols for pets in terms of their accommodation and other things such as restricted areas.

Is the campsite all right in terms of hygiene and all kinds of safety precautions? Check the safety protocols in place at the campsite. If you don’t find this information on the campsites’ websites then feel free to call them with your inquiry.

Pack right for camping

Once you know for sure the kinds of facilities available at the campsite, it will help you pack your gear accordingly. You wouldn’t need to pack a ton of gear such as tents, sleeping bags, tarp, etc. if you choose a family-friendly resort campsite. You can conveniently stay in RVs or cabins while enjoying all the perks of camping.

If you wish to stay in tents only then inquire beforehand what gear will be available for you and what you need to bring with you.

Even if the campsite has first-aid facilities available for guests, it is best to carry medicines along with you. If you or your kids require any specific medicines such as those for allergies or any other medical condition such as diabetes or asthma (extra inhalers) then ensure that you carry it with you.

Also, carry flashlights and extra batteries. Other important things to pack in your camping gear will be sunscreen, insect repellant, and water bottles. Carry ample snacks and juices. Pack appropriate clothing with a few extra items if you are going camping for a few days.

Conduct a health check before you go

It is best to avoid camping if you or your kids have a cold, mild fever, or body ache. Wait till the symptoms subside and you (or your kids) feel OK to go camping. If you or your kids suffer from seasonal allergies then choose a time when hay fever is not at its peak. With these tips in mind, you can have a great camping holiday with your family.

When the water we use is contaminated even a bit, the consequential result will be very bad for human health. Nevertheless, in general, it’s considered that water must contain a bit of fluoride, which is good for the bones and teeth of humans. When the water we use is contaminated even a bit, the consequential result will be very bad for human health. Nevertheless, in general, it’s considered that water must contain a bit of fluoride, which is good for the bones and teeth of humans.

Fluoride

Fluoride is the base substance that creates human teeth and bones. The same is also found in water, air, rocks, soil, plants, etc. Fluoride is essential for human health and will enhance the quality of dental health. The same is used in toothpaste and mouth rinses. This is apart from the other uses like making pesticides, cleaning agents, etc. It will prevent tooth decay by trimming down the possibility of the loss of tooth enamel. Besides, fluoride is good for checking the growth of detrimental oral bacteria. The formation of bacteria is the root cause of tooth damage, and fluoride precludes the formation of bacteria and will in the bud the creation of cavities, which cause the decay of teeth. As such is the case, fluoride is generally considered as a good material for maintaining the strength and prolonged existence of human teeth.

Babies Need Pure Water

However, it is also considered that if fluoride is in excess, then that water is not fit for babies as it will discolor the baby’s teeth. There is a potential danger here; the discoloration, when formed, can stretch itself to the adulthood days. In short, there will be a permanent discolor, which will be a menace to the individual concerned, and may take away a part of the self-confidence later in his or her life. Baby Bottles an Alternative to Breast Feeding

March 11, 2020 By Stacey Leave a Comment

While breastfeeding may be your first choice of feeding your baby, there can be various reasons why you might want to acclimatize him or her to drink from a baby bottle. You may have to return to work, for instance, or you may need a respite now and then from nursing. At such times, it will help if you can make use of the best baby bottles ( babyblendybottles.com/Best-Baby-Bottles ) available in the market as an alternative to breastfeeding. That will make it easier for other family members or caregivers to nurse the baby in your stead.

Here’s what you need to know about baby bottles as an alternative to breastfeeding:

Materials of Baby Bottles

You can choose to get baby bottles made of BPA-free plastic, silicone, glass, or stainless steel. The baby bottle material should be FDA-approved and be easy to clean by hand or in a dishwasher. In the case of plastic baby bottles, it is best to avoid immersing them in boiling hot water. You can sterilize them, instead, by putting them for a few minutes in a microwave oven or a dishwasher.

Shapes and Sizes of Baby Bottles

Traditional baby bottles have long, slightly curved shapes, but you can find much smaller, more ergonomically designed ones with wide necks in the market. The wide-necked ones are easier to clean, but may not fit the drink holders in the baby stroller or your car. Some bottles have measurement marks to make it easier for you to check how much formula your baby is getting.

Choose baby bottles that are lightweight and easier for both you and the baby to hold. You may want to start with the smaller ones that are 4 ounces or less for newborns and get more appropriately sized ones as your baby grows.

Nipples of Baby Bottles

Baby bottle nipples are available in latex or silicone. While the latex ones are soft and flexible, the silicone nipples are firmer, more long-lasting, and easier to clean. Shape-wise, baby bottle nipples may be bell-like, dome-like, flat-sided, flat-topped, and wide-based. The ones meant for newborns and babies up to six months have smaller holes for milk flow than the ones for older babies. Generally, one milk drop per second flow is sufficient for most babies.

To make sure, hold the baby bottle upside down and check if the milk drips or flows. You don’t want a fast flow as that might make the baby choke, especially if he or she is accustomed to breastfeeding. You may have to experiment with several nipples to find the one that your baby prefers.

Venting Systems in Baby Bottles

Swallowing air with milk can cause gas, colic, spit-up, and other digestive issues in babies. To avoid these problems, the best baby bottles have venting systems at the bottom or near the nipple. These have straw-like parts that remove air bubbles from the milk flow.

Mixing Systems in Baby Bottles

Some of the best baby bottles come with battery-operated mixers that make it more convenient for you to mix the baby formula. With a press of a button, the mixer with get rid of all chunks and create a smooth blend that will be easier for your baby to ingest.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

• It may take a while to find the right bottle and nipple combination for your baby as well as to figure out the best position for feeding. You can cradle him or her while holding the bottle, but some babies might want you to pace around. Hold the baby upright as feeding while lying down can be risky. The milk might inadvertently enter the Eustachian tube and cause ear-related problems.

• It is best to feed your baby after he or she is well-rested.

• Warm the baby bottle nipple before use.

• If your baby is teething, put the nipple in the refrigerator to cool before use.

As there are many baby bottle and nipple varieties in the market, you will be able to find the ones that best suit your baby. Buy at least four or five combinations so you will always have at least one or two readies to use during feeding time.

How to Place a Child for Adoption

April 7, 2016 By Stacey

Anyone that finds themselves in a situation that involves placing a child for adoption will feel bombarded with dozens of different sensations all at the same time. Whether just faced with an unplanned pregnancy or contemplating your future steps after having given birth to a baby, these are not simple decisions for anyone involved, and perhaps the most important thing is to be assured that adoption is a sensible solution that puts the best interests and the wellbeing of the child first. While paperwork and legal procedures may differ from one state to another, the main point remains the same – adoption is a process through which a distressing situation of the birth parents has the great potential of turning into a wonderful life-changing joy for the adoptive parents – all with the child’s future in mind.

What are the options?

There are three basic options when it comes to placing a child for adoption and adopting a child (importantly, there is variation from state to state on which option is preferred or considered the best for the child): independent adoption, agency adoption and international adoption. Independent adoption does not involve the government or adoption agencies in the process beyond a certain minimum mandated by law to establish that the adoptive parents are a good fit for the child. Agency adoption involves putting the process in the hands of a professional and accredited adoption agency that then works with the parties involved to establish the action plan. International adoption takes place when the child was born in another country (the specifics there would differ from country to country).

ChildforAdoptionIndependent or agency?

Setting international adoption as perhaps the most difficult variant aside, we are left with the options of independent and agency adoption. As was noted above, state laws differ in terms of the attitude and approach to independent adoption – in fact, in some states the only option is agency adoption. The positive side of independent adoption is not involving more people than needed in the process. The negative side is, of course, the lack of a strong legal framework and a very subjective adoptive parents screening process. Agency adoption is, by far, the easier route for birth parents to take. There is enough stress in the situation as is – why create additional stress by trying to avoid the help of adoption professionals?

Does the agency decide everything?

Going through an adoption agency does not mean giving up all responsibility for the process. In fact, professional and dynamic adoption agencies do their best to involve the birth parent or parents into the decision-making process as much as possible. As a number of studies have shown that avoiding complete loss of contact between the birth parents’ lives and the life of the child leads to better socialization and interpersonal relationships, some of the more progressive adoption agencies now make it possible to keep in touch with the child after the adoption. While it is the agency’s job to conduct criminal background clearances, income verification and home inspection in regards to the adoptive parents, the ultimate decision on who will adopt the child remains with the birth parents.

What to keep in mind

It is important to know that the adoption process is made much less stressful for the birth mother through working with a fully accredited and experienced adoption agency. In many cases, the mother’s living expenses and medical expenses are fully covered through the agency, so that she can focus on a healthy and positive lifestyle during pregnancy. When researching the agencies, make sure that you do not rush into a decision. Go through the materials provided by the agency and examine their success stories, how many years they have been operating for, the level of control you would have over the adoption process, how open they are with communicating with your on a day to day basis, whether they would be open to supporting your through the pregnancy and so on and so forth. Sensible and time tested options exist that should fit your criteria for a reliable and friendly adoption agency.

The right focus

It is necessary to always keep the focus right. When contemplating and planning placing a child for adoption, it is important to put the child’s best interests, well-being and safety front and center. If an option you are looking at would ensure that the child grows up in a loving home where he or she is already awaited by kind and generous people, listen to your intuition – and then be sure to ask a lot of questions when you contact the agency of your choice.

Domestic Adoption and What it is

March 20, 2016 By Stacey Leave a Comment

If you are considering adoption, it is important to know all the facts about the various adoption processes.  While the more common form of adoption is currently international adoption, popularized by its apparent celebrity endorsement, from celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Sandra Bullock to the popular reality series The Little Couple, domestic adoption remains both prevalent and in-demand.

What is domestic adoption?

Domestic adoption refers to the process of adopting the filiations and legal rights and responsibilities of a child or infant from within the same country—in other words, the adopted child is selected from within his or her country of birth.  There are two main forms of domestic adoption:

adoption1) An identified agency placement is a form of domestic adoption which takes place when the birth mother relinquishes her parental rights to a licensed domestic adoption agency.  The agency then places the baby with the selected adoptive parent(s), in some cases directly from the hospital; however, the adoption agency maintains legal custody of the baby until the placement is assessed and deemed to be appropriate and the adoption is finalized.

2) An independent infant domestic adoption, or direct placement adoption, occurs when a birth mother selects the adoptive parents and gives them direct physical and legal custody of the baby without the involvement of an agency.  An assessment of the adoptive placement is still required before the adoption can be finalized, but these are generally handled by adoption attorneys and independent social workers.  Independent adoptions can be streamlined, and can provide the opportunity for a more customized adoption plan to take place.  Many adoptions in which an alternative family member takes custody of the infant fall under this category.

How common is domestic adoption?

As the popularity of international adoption continues to rise, a number of myths have begun to surface surrounding domestic adoption.  One such myth suggests that the availability of domestic infants in need of adoption is dwindling.  In actuality, while 19,000 infants are available internationally for adoption each year, a minimum of 20,000 infants under the age of one year are placed for adoption each year in the United States alone.  Of these infants, less than 1,500 are adopted each year, leaving thousands of infants to be entered into foster care.

What are some other common misconceptions about domestic adoption?

Another common misconception surrounding domestic adoption includes the length of wait time.  While a popular myth suggests that the wait time for adoption takes around 5 years, a more realistic wait time ranges from one to two years.  This length of time accounts for the amount of time it takes to match the baby to his or her potential parents, as well as the assessments and legal proceedings which are required to take place before the adoption can be finalized.  In many cases, the adoptive parents can attain physical custody of the child before all of the legalities of the adoption process are finalized.  While the myth seems to suggest that the parents, seeking to adopt an infant, are finally awarded physical custody of a 5-year old child, depending on the type of domestic adoption selected, it is often possible for the parents to take their newly adopted infant directly home from the hospital.  In certain circumstances, given the respective comfort levels of both the biological and adoptive parent(s), as with open adoption, it is even possible for the adoptive parents to attend doctor appointments with the pregnant biological mother, allowing contact and involvement throughout all stages of the child’s life.

For more information regarding the common myths and misconceptions of domestic adoption, consult Eliza Newlin Carney’s The Truth About Domestic Adoption.

In the United States, each state and territory contains different laws and procedures surrounding the domestic adoption process.  These laws affect not only how a biological parent can relinquish their parental rights, but also when a birth parent can legally consent to an adoption.  While the biological father can relinquish his parental rights beforehand, the birth mother cannot legally consent to an adoption until after the baby is born—even if an adoptive family has already been chosen.  A waiting period ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks is required before the birth mother can give consent; however, the average wait time lasts 3 days, after which point the adoption can be finalized.

Is Adoption Right for Me?

February 13, 2016 By Stacey Leave a Comment

Of course, essentially, the question in the title of this article is one that can only be answered by you. Only you would know how you feel about adoption in general. Only you would be able to summarize the information that you already have in order to see what data gaps you have that would prevent you from making an informed and coherent decision. Only your heart will tell you the way, and yet it is important to point out that the very fact that you are reading this would indicate that adoption definitely is on the table. Adoption is not easy, but here are a few pointers to help you consider what it is, what it involves, and what the deeper meaning of adoption is when you put the focus on the well being of the child above anything else.

You are not alone

When thinking about adoption, it is crucial to remember that you are not alone in this. Thousands upon thousands of people (http://www.census.gov/prod/2003pubs/censr-6.pdf) put babies up for adoption or adopt children in every given year here in the United States and throughout the world. Any stigma or incomprehension that may have existed about adoption in the previous centuries should be completely forgotten and considered inappropriate, as adoption is certainly not a detestable or shameful or illegal practice, but rather is one that brings people together in ensuring the best outcome for the child in question. Thus, anyone suggesting that putting a child up for adoption is a negative or destructive step has their priorities mixed up – the issue at hand here is what is best for the child, and the best is of course a loving and caring home. If the birth parent or parents are unprepared or unable to go through with the upbringing of the child, the logical, sensible, heartfelt, human and caring way to go forward certainly includes considering adoption as an option.

Types of adoption

In considering whether adoption is right for your individual case, and having set aside any preconceptions or taboo feelings about adoption, it is necessary to consider the different options in front of you. The two basic approaches to adoption would be open and closed adoption. In the closed scenario, which has been more traditional and has a longer history, the birth parent or parents do not get to meet the adoptive parents; anonymity and confidentiality are the top priority, and the future life of the adopted child is a mystery for the birth parents (just as the life of the birth parents remains hidden from the child for years or for their lifetime).

The open adoption scenario is something that is becoming more increasingly popular and understood – a number of studies have shown that social integration, self-confidence and other psychological issues receive a positive boost as a result of open adoption, a process in which the birth parents and the adoptive parents join together in a celebration of the child’s birth as opposed to not knowing about each other. In the most advanced open adoption scenarios, the birth parents continue to receive information about the child and may even be in constant contact with the adoptive family. Knowing where they came from and who their birth parents are helps children in their social development throughout their lifetime, while any feelings of guilt or inadequacy are extinguished early on.

Things to know about adoption

If you are considering putting a child up for adoption, you should know that professional adoption agencies are available to help you on a continuous basis with this difficult but reaffirming process. Accommodations, medical bills, and other needs may often be met by the adoptive parents and the adoption agency so the birth parents can focus on the child instead of stressful situations. Whichever type of adoption you choose, a professional adoption agency would be able to give 24/7 support, answers to questions and recommendations. Going through an adoption agency ensures that the adoptive family is carefully chosen through several stages of screening, criminal checks, and other processes. As a result, the child is placed with a loving and caring family that will ensure their happy childhood, teenage years and adolescence.

When thinking about whether adoption is right for you, you need to consider calmly and clearly whether keeping the child is an option. If bringing up the child is impossible, seriously consider participating in the miracle that is adoption – people coming together in their love of the child to ensure that their well being and happiness are the top priority and the only major focus.

If you are looking to contact such a community, to give your aging loved one a proper medical care and assistance; it is important for you to conduct a methodical online survey to choose the best. Choosing such a community is a major decision.

Tips for choosing a senior living community:

•  Examine the level of cleanliness

•  Visit during an activity

•  Check Meal quality

•  Visit the outdoor areas

•  Observe staff friendliness

•  Ask about move-out criteria

•  Ask security and safety questions

There are certain things that you need to bear out before finalizing a community. Confirm if there are licensed nurse on-site 24 hours per day. If the organization offers high quality, nutritious, balanced meals a day. Is there is a chance to choose from a variety of menu? If special diets are served to people with specific health problem? Ensure if they provide the aged people with proper transportation for activities, errands, doctor visits, and worship. Is there an individual written case plan for each resident? Do not go by high-price and lavish features. It is important to understand that fancy furniture, costly infrastructure do not certify quality. Select the best and ensure your peace of mind!

Top Benefits of Living in an Assisted Living Community

December 17, 2015 By Stacey Leave a Comment

Are you thinking of an assisted living community, but all you see is a dingy, dilapidated asylum where elders are dragging along like zombies?

Well, snap out of it! Modern day assisted living communities in Rhode Island, Connecticut and many other areas are ingeniously planned to welcome people in a homelike environment. You might call them corporate mints, but their only selling point can be dedicated to their residents.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAkV5TbYn8E

The following points should relax your apprehensions.

1. Retirement from office and house

Who deserves to live in a house with overflowing trash cans, piled up laundry and fused out light bulbs? In assisted living communities all the chores are taken care of by the staff, while the residents only have to chill around.

2. That will be the first day of the rest of your life

Assisted living communities are not to be confused with a serviced lodge. They will not make you shut yourself in a room and tolerate whatever television throws at you. They offer an diverse menu of activities and hobbies, even for those who “suck at hobbies”.

Never went to a concert? How about a live performance right outside your window? Be it music, movies, yoga, aerobics, meditation, games, local sightseeing, nature trips, art exhibitions or museums (Phew!), assisted living communities would make it all happen for you. These excursions and recreations will take your mind off your issues and give you fresh reasons to greet every morning. You need to give life another chance, lest you are too numb to change channels.

3. You will always be the parent

Not every child is mentally resilient to be at the beck and call of his or her parents. Sudden parent-child role reversals often lead to guilt and resentment for both the parties involved.

It may surprise you at first, but joining assisted living (http://www.wisegeek.net/what-are-the-different-types-of-assisted-living-for-the-elderly.htm) communities keeps families together. The reason is very simple. Parents are happy as they no longer feel like a liability on their children. As long as parents are happy, children are happy.

4. Eat you will!

Even a ten-year-old will echo that diet is crucial for physical health. But how many people know that irregular and poor diet can lead to mental illnesses namely, depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s?

Unless you go and open their freezer, there is perhaps no way you can tell how well your loved ones are eating. Age and loneliness make it easier to starve than to cook. Those who appear to order outside food actually get by on ice cream.

If you are exploring memory care in Rhode Island or Connecticut or elsewhere, rest assured there will be food-healthy, tasty and timely. This claim is not hinting at toast and boiled potatoes. You can look forward to an experience of fine dining, amidst jokes and toasts, day after day.

5. People won’t bite!

If somebody asks how to enjoy being alone, possibly the single best answer would be, go and meet people! If you have come to ask how to enjoy being alone, then “being alone” is not what you want to enjoy. This is not a statement on introverts. Introverts don’t try to enjoy alone time. They just enjoy it. Unhappy recluses, who are living in a denial and making excuses to stay in, try to enjoy loneliness.

Assisted living communities will help you relax your inhibitions and reach out to somebody your age, just as you did in Kindergarten! Hopefully you will find someone to share your lunch with.

6. You will know you will be safe

A pizza delivery guy who got the address wrong could give someone a heart attack! Exactly how long can somebody live with a lingering fear of a break-in? How much should one rely on neighbors to respond to the alarm on New Year’s Eve? Who can even reach out to the alarm, trapped in the bathtub, or with a broken hip?

These concerns make it all the more important to live in a place where people are hired to check in with the residents, and jump to the spot, should the alarm buzz.
